Coverage & Planting Details

Coverage This packet sows up to 20 feet.
Row Spacing 24"-36"
Seed Depth Press into surface
Seed Spacing A group of 3 seeds every 6"-12"
Thinning When 1" tall, thin to 1 every 6"-12"
Germination 15-30 days
Start Indoors RECOMMENDED. 10 to 12 weeks before your average last frost date for spring harvest, or 10 to 12 weeks before transplanting outdoors for fall crop. Biodegradable pots minimize root disturbance at transplanting. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 70°-75°F.
Direct Sow Recommended for mild climates only. 1 to 2 weeks before your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 50°F, or in fall for cool-season harvest.
Special Sowing Light aids celery seed germination; press seed into surface. Water gently or mist so as not to disturb the seed. When starting indoors, cover seed containers with clear plastic wrap to help retain moisture and keep the seed in place. Once seedlings emerge, remove the plastic wrap.
Special Care In areas where summers are hot, mulch and shade from the afternoon sun. Blanching celery plants produces lighter colored, sweeter stalks, though less nutritious. Blanching is accomplished by blocking sunlight from the stalks (not the leaves) for 2 to 3 weeks before harvest time. You can gently wrap the celery bunch with a brown paper bag tied in place with garden twine or raffia, use a cut open paper milk carton to act as a "sleeve," or build up the soil to about a third of the way up and repeat this process each week until reaching the base of the leaves. Persistent temperatures below 55°F may cause bolting, a reason some gardeners find sowing for fall harvest more successful.

    Great Seeds

OMG, This celery is so easy to grow, I have never grown celery before so it was time to give it a try since I use it a lot in meal prep. I planted like 3 of the 16 cell packs and I couldn't believe it, every single one came up. Now I have a 6 X 3 foot bed full of about 50 celery plants and it is growing beautifully. I can't wait til harvest day, it is going to be so yummy.

I am so happy with all the seeds I have gotten from Epic Gardening, keep up the great work.

    A Rare Negative Review

I have had overwhelmingly good results with Botanical Interest seeds. This packet came 12 seeds short, and the ones that were planted didn’t make it.

One of my seeds sprouted and grew, so I planted four more and only used one seed because I was that sure they would come up. They did and they are ready for succession planting soon!
