The fascinating inflorescence (arrangement in a row like eyelashes) turn golden brown and occasionally red in the fall, curling as they dry, and the feathery foliage makes a nice contrast in rock gardens and xeric plantings. Skipper butterflies use this grass as a host plant, and birds enjoy the seeds.
