How Does the USDA Hardiness Zone Map Help Me Choose Varieties for My Garden?

USDA Hardiness Zones map

The USDA hardiness zone map divides the U.S. into zones based on average coldest winter temperature. Perennials naturally live for more than two years, but their survival can depend on how tolerant they are to cold weather.

For example, a plant that may survive a Texas winter may not survive a winter in Minnesota. Perennials are rated using the USDA zone system, indicating the coldest zone they can survive, allowing gardeners to choose hardy plants for their garden.

The hardiness zone does not relate to the average last frost date, just the average coldest temperature. Find your hardiness zone using your zip code on the USDA website.

We also list the hardiness zone on each of our perennials!
